Emergency Medicine
A 24×7 casualty with immediate triage, emergency admission, emergency surgery and critical care support.

About the department
The emergency service is open every hour of the year. Patients are triaged on arrival so that the most serious are attended first, and registration formalities are completed alongside treatment rather than before it.
The casualty has direct access to the operation theatre, intensive care beds, imaging and the laboratory, so a patient who needs urgent surgery — an obstructed hernia, a perforated appendix, an obstructed kidney or an emergency caesarean — can move straight through without being transferred elsewhere.
Families are kept informed at each step, and where a case needs a facility we do not have, we stabilise the patient first and arrange a referral with the records in hand.
