About the department
The Department of General Surgery handles the common abdominal operations that most families eventually need — hernia repair, appendix removal and gall bladder stone surgery — along with abscesses, lumps and minor day-care procedures.
Wherever the case allows, surgery is laparoscopic: three or four small incisions instead of one long one, which generally means less post-operative pain, a shorter stay and a faster return to normal activity. Where open surgery is the safer choice, that is explained clearly rather than avoided.
Every planned operation is preceded by a written estimate and a pre-anaesthetic check, and discharge instructions list the medicines, the wound care and the follow-up date.

- A groin or abdominal bulge, even if it is painless
- Repeated pain in the upper right abdomen after meals
- A scan reporting gall bladder stones
- Sudden severe abdominal pain with fever or vomiting
- A lump that is growing or changing
